The Opp Cultural Arts Council recently was awarded a $3,000 Alabama State Council on the Arts grant to help provide summer art opportunities for local children.

Additionally, the grant will help provide beginner workshops to others interested in learning art basics, and help fund supplies for the weekly painting classes for adults.

The ASCA grant is made possible through funding from an annual appropriation from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“This public support enables OCAC to reach new audiences, foster community development, provide the highest quality programming and demonstrate the importance of arts as a component for quality of life in Alabama” spokesperson Peggy Linton said in a release.
