Tucked away on Main Street in downtown Dozier sits Dozier Building Supply – but don’t let the name fool you. The store offers much more than just hardware materials.

Owner Jan Cook said she’s working to draw more people to Dozier and create an atmosphere people enjoy.

“We want people to come and we want to create relationships where they enjoy coming to Dozier to shop,” she said. “We are real interested in bringing Dozier back, and we want to be here to fill the needs of the area.”

Cook, whose family has opened a package store, a corner market and the building supply store, said she encourages others to open businesses in the small town.

While the store offers traditional building supplies such as lumber, plywood, plumbing and electrical products, it also has some surprises.

“We also have a lot of general store merchandise,” Cook said. “And we now have Valspar paint. We try to really keep the store stocked because we want to local traffic.”

The store features high-end rods and reel such as Penn, recliners, outdoor gardening accents and Alabama and Auburn memorabilia.

“We have low-end and high-end products,” she said. “There’s something for everyone.”

Cook said she sees traffic from both Covington and Crenshaw counties, and says she can “just about beat anybody’s roofing prices.”

Cook said the business provides free estimates and makes deliveries.

The store is open Monday through Wednesday and Fridays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Thursday and Saturday from 7 a.m. until noon. They will be open for Memorial Day.

It is located in the old Dixie Dandy building in downtown Dozier.
