Clean up day set in Opp

Opp residents should mark the calendar for July 13 as a citywide clean up day.

Mayor John Bartholomew said the city landfill will extend its hours to 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. to allow residents to dispose of limbs and other yard debris free of charge.

“I think people around town see the big difference that cleaning up can make,” Bartholomew said. “I hope people take advantage of the day.”

Council members continued their mission to clean up the city Monday by declaring two nuisance properties – 414 North Jackson Street and 305 Rush Street – for overgrown weeds.

In other business, the council approved an off-premise beer and wine license for the Opp Discount Tobacco and Gas store.
