Colby Adams and the 16-and-under travel softball team, Alabama Fury, have been a bit busy this summer.

Adams, a rising eighth grader at Straughn Middle School, plays in the outfield for the team.

Two weeks ago, the Alabama Fury finished in ninth place at a tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. The team did so well in Oklahoma that it got a berth to the ASA 16A Nationals Tournament in California, Adams’ mother, Darby, said.

In order to finish qualifying for the national tournament, the Alabama Fury must do well in the state tournament, which starts today in Tuscaloosa.

The Alabama Fury will play today through Sunday at the Tuscaloosa Complex to get the much-needed nationals berth.

“She’s pretty excited,” Darby said about Colby.

Adams is the only local girl who is on the travel ball team. The other girls come from Enterprise, Dothan, Tallahassee and Georgia, Darby said.

After the tournament in Tuscaloosa, Adams and the Alabama Fury will travel again to play in the Legacy Showcase in Atlanta.
