An Opp man is being held on a $300,000 bond for sex crimes involving a young girl.

Police Chief Mike McDonald said investigators arrested Jerome Phillips late Thursday afternoon.

Phillips, 56, is facing one count of first-degree attempted rape and one count of first-degree sexual abuse.

McDonald said the case against Phillips was opened earlier that morning between the OPD and the county Department of Human Resources after a report was filed alleging the possible sexual offenses that involved a juvenile female.

No other information was released in the case.
