Line drives toward the pitcher’s mound and third base helped lift Andalusia’s 12-and-under girls to a 4-3 victory over Piedmont today at the ARPA State Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament in Gadsden.

The Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second and one run in the fourth in the win.

Piedmont scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth.

Mary Katherine Salter pitched three innings before being pulled out, where Sydney Ray came in and pitched out the rest of the way.

“We hit the ball very hard,” Andalusia coach Anthony Mikel said. “We played a lot of small ball and ran the bases a lot.”

Andalusia advances to the winner’s bracket finals, where it will face Talladega. The game is slated to take place right now on Field No. 2, but Mikel said the game was probably going to be delayed.

If Andalusia loses to Talladega, then it will drop down to the loser’s bracket finals. That game is slated for 6 p.m.

The championship starts at 7:30 tonight.
