It’s all about adventure this week at the Blue Lake Methodist Camp, and they aren’t just talking about the 300 or so campers.

Director Phyllis Murray said Wednesday that the day started with an electrical fire in one of the camp buildings, but that was nothing compared to the excitement of seeing an alligator along the shores of Blue Lake.

“It has been exciting here at Blue Lake,” Murray said. “Thankfully, the fire was nothing – just a box in an electrical closet. The campers were more excited to see the 10-foot alligator.

“The fish and wildlife folks have delivered a trap, so I’m confident that will be taken care of soon,” she said. “We’re not modifying our swim schedule because we’ve got several safeguards in place.”

Murray said this week, there are 140 campers from all over South Alabama and Northwest Florida, while the remaining campers are from a group called “Common Ground” from Montgomery.
