Escaped inmate found in county

A Clarke County inmate who escaped from a Department of Corrections work release program was taken into custody in Florala Thursday night.

Chief Deputy David Anderson said the sheriff’s department was contacted at 10:30 Thursday night about the inmate, John Harold King, 29. King had stolen a vehicle in Clarke County. Clarke County Sheriff Ray Norris had information indicating King was in Florala.

Florala Police Chief Sonny Bedsole, Florala officers and Covington County deputies located King at a residence off of Sixth Street in Florala. King was taken into custody and transported to the Covington County Jail. The stolen vehicle was recovered and impounded.
