JOSEPH L. BRYAN

Joseph L. Bryan of Georgia, formerly of Dozier, passed away Thurs., Sept. 5, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by Keahey Funeral Home.

 

CONAN GRIFFIN

Conan Griffin, 37, of Andalusia, passed away Thurs., Sept. 5, 2013, at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., today, Fri., Sept. 6, at the Scripture Truth Baptist Church with the Rev. Carol Parker officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service at the cemetery. Keahey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Comfort Care Hospice or Scripture Truth Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Ethan Thomas Griffin; mother, Shirley Marie Carter; brothers, Thomas D. Griffin (Sherry), all of Andalusia, Chad D. Griffin of New York and Eric Sean Griffin of Opp; and sisters, Sherri Lynn Urquiola of Orlando, Fla., and Tina Marie Stewart (Doug) of Andalusia.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Thomas D. Griffin Sr., and his sister, Pennie Marie Griffin.

 

VIRGINIA MILLS

Virginia Mills, 94, passed away Mon., Sept. 2, 2013, in a local nursing facility.

A native of Skipperville, she was the daughter of the late Christopher C. Baker and Lillie L. Baker. Also predeceasing her were step-mothers, Kate K. Baker and Jennie W. Baker; sisters, Mabel Baker, Lois Morton and Olive Baker; and brothers, Pearson Baker and Douglas Baker.

She is survived by her son, Ernest F. (Juliana) Mills of Birmingham; daughter, Nancy Robbins of Andalusia; grandchildren, Natalie Moore of Mobile, Oliver Mills of Birmingham, Bethany (Billy) Polk of Prattville and Kirk (Suzanne) Mills of Birmingham; nieces, Jann Nance of Asheville, N.C., and Marlo (Bill) Bixby of Skipperville; nephews, Oliver (Cindy) Morton of Silver Springs, Md., Larry Baker and Bill Baker, both of Skipperville; and six great-grandchildren.

She was a 56-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia. She was a graduate of Auburn University and earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Tennessee. She taught school for several years at Skipperville Junior High School. She worked as a social worker with the Alabama Department of Human Resources for more than 40 years – 27 of which as the director of the Covington County office.

During her retirement, she enjoyed participating in church activities, volunteering at Andalusia Regional Hospital for 10 years, playing bridge and visiting family and friends.

Her interment will be a private family service at Skipperville Community Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Trent and the Rev. Freddie McCain officiating. Pallbearers will be Oliver Mills, Kirk Mills, Larry Baker, Bill Baker, William Polk, and Walter Polk.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 7, in the First United Methodist Church sanctuary with ministers Tim Trent and Freddie McCain officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall.
