Ta Bonham intercepted a pass and ran it back 36 yards for a touchdown in Opp’s 7-0 region victory over Excel on Friday night.

“We’ll take a win,” OHS head football coach Jack Whigham said. “We needed a win bad.”

The Bobcats held the Panthers on a goal-line stand from their own 3 and from there, OHS would play good enough defense the rest of the way.

When asked what sort of problems Excel gave his team on offense, Whigham said the Panthers were a whole lot “better.”

“We just shot ourselves in the foot a couple times,” he said. “Excel is much improved. (EHS coach Richard Anderson) had those kids convinced.”

OHS (2-2, 1-2 in Class 3A, Region 1) drove the ball to end the game, and took a knee for the win.

The Bobcats host Andalusia next week.

In other 3A action, Straughn defeated Cottage Hill 39-0 in Mobile.

“We’re glad to win,” SHS coach Trent Taylor said. “We were able to play a lot of kids in the second half.”

The Tigers led 26-0 at halftime after scoring on their first two possessions of the game.

SHS hosts Elba next week.
