JESSIE GERALD COON

Jessie Gerald Coon, 68, of Opp, passed away Sun., Oct. 13, 2013, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Wed., Oct. 16, at the New Hope Baptist Church, off U.S. Hwy. 331 between Opp and Florala, with the Rev. Buford Smith officiating and interment following in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to today’s services.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Coon of Opp, Carl and Debbie Coon of Lexington, Ky., and Hunter Coon of Opp; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ann and Chris Wilkerson of Samson and Heather and Robbie Odom of Opp; five grandchildren; his brothers and sister-in-law, Walter Coon of Florala and Donald Ray (Barbara) Coon of Jacksonville, Fla.; and his sisters, Jimmy Nell Marshall of Florala and Betty Joyce Blocker of New Harmony, Fla.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Twanna “Tina” Coon; sisters, Christine Adams and Jean Courtney; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Nick Chapman, Trey Phillips, Trevor Huckabaa, Tyler Hermans and Ricky Odom.

REBA LANGFORD MERRILL

Reba Langford Merrill, 77, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Sun., Oct. 13, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Thurs., Oct. 17, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Coley M. Holloway officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Dozier with Byrd Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

She was born July 21, 1936, in Dozier. She taught school for 23 years in Houston County and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was loved by her family, fellow workers and her students. She loved traveling, working in her yard and cooking. She was always doing things for other people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Eula Langford; her husband, Benjamin Franklin Merrill; a sister, Trudie Mae Hammett; and two brothers, Kirk Langford and Hugh B. Langford.

She is survived by her sisters, Sara Bell of Pensacola, Fla., Frances Barnett of Andalusia, Janie Clark of Opp, Lucy Davis (Kent) of Dozier and Exa Jordan of Opp; her brother, Roy Langford, of LaPorte, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Joe Merrill (Peggy) of Dothan; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Merrill Grant of Dozier and Ann Merrill Ray (Frank) of LaGrange, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

 

SHYRON L. ‘DOC’ BRYANT

Shyron L. “Doc” Bryant of Andalusia passed away Fri., Oct. 11, 2013.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Mon., Oct. 14, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Vaughn and the Rev. Larry Nichols officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Shannon and Chris Bryant of Andalusia; his daughter, Mellonie Chappell of Hartselle; his grandchildren, Andrea Lynn Bryant, Aaron Armstrong, Mary Madelynn Chappell and Marylynn Maisey Chappell; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Keith Lynch of River Falls and Sylvia and Coleman Moseley of Opp; and a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Elaine Bryant of Friendship community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Everett Bryant and Ruthie Mae Bryant; his sister, Gayle Sharpe; a brother, James Bryant; and a nephew, Gray Shape.

JANICE LEE BECK WETHERBEE

Janice Lee Beck Wetherbee, 53, of Pace, Fla., and formerly of Andalusia, passed away unexpectedly on Fri., Oct. 11, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services were held on Mon., Oct. 14, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Beck and the Rev. Ray Armstrong officiating. Special music was provided by Dana Beck.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Ken Wetherbee of Pace, Fla.; daughter, Moriya Lynn Beck of Jackson; son, Tyler (Krista) Woodham of Crestview, Fla.; granddaughter, Alice “Ally” Woodham; parents, Earl and Nell Beck of Andalusia; sisters, Nancy (Lester) Bullock of Andalusia and Kim (Dave) Cruikshawk of Laurel Hill, Fla.; and brothers, David (Trish) Beck of Tallahassee, Fla., Wayne (Renee) Meeks of the Straughn Community, Phil (Donna) Meeks of the Babbie Community and Randy (Lori) Meeks of Helena.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Faye Beck Logan; son, Steve Lenwood Richey II; and brother, Grady Lynn “Rusty” Beck.
