The Pleasant Home Eagles are holding their heads up high this week after a close loss to a one-loss McKenzie team Friday night at home.

Head coach Cody McCain said he was proud of his team’s determination and willingness to play tough for four quarters during Friday’s 27-14 loss.

“They fought to the end,” McCain said. “It’s been a rough season for us, but the kids have continued to play hard.”

The Eagles’ hard playing gave them a 7-0 lead early in their game against McKenzie after a 15-yard rushing score from Jon Cole Chesser.

By halftime, McKenzie had managed to tie things up a 7-7 and scored on the opening drive of the second half to go up 14-7.

The Eagles gave up two more touchdowns late in the game, but also found the end zone again with a run by Chesser, this time from 4 yards out.

McCain said his team stood up well to McKenzie.

“They have a really good team,” he said. “I’m proud of our kids.”

Next week, the Eagles hit the road to take on the Bulldogs of J.U. Blacksher in Uriah to end the season.

“They’ve been struggling too,” McCain said. “I think we have a good shot at going over there and winning. We just have to continue improving.”

Kickoff for the Eagles and the Bulldogs is set for 7 p.m.
