FAYETTE — The Fayette County Tigers defeated Opp, 17-7, in an AHSAA Class 3A first-round playoff game Friday night in their home stadium.

But things didn’t look good for Fayette County (10-1) going into the locker room at halftime. The Tigers found themselves trailing the Bobcats (5-6) at the end of the first half with only three first downs and 61 yards of total offense.

After the band made its way off the field, Fayette County quarterback Drew Guy put on a show.

“Drew started off with a hot hand in the second half, completed four or five in a row,” Fayette County coach Lance Tucker said. “He kind of got rolling, and when he did everything just kind of snowballed from there.”

Guy couldn’t find his mark in the first half, completing 4-of-13 of his passes for 50 yards.

But something clicked for him at halftime, as he finished the game with 272 yards on 16-of-27 passing and a touchdown to JaTevin Madison in the third quarter.

Madison pulled in eight catches for 172 yards. But he wasn’t alone.

Guy’s other favorite target was 6-1 senior Chris Swannigan, who caught four passes for 80 yards.

Running back Kyle Nalls also came alive in the second half, concluding the night with 19 carries for 65 yards and a nine-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter that sealed the game for Fayette County.

The Fayette County defense stepped up and held Opp to 130 yards of total offense and zero yards through the air.

The Bobcats’ only score came on an 8-yard touchdown run from Ty White with 3:23 left in the first quarter.
