JOHN E. HENDRIX

John E. Hendrix, 84, of Andalusia, passed away on Thurs., Nov. 14, 2013, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 16, at Pigeon Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Dutcher officiating and Keahey Funeral Home directing.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Hendrix of Red Level; daughters, Joycelyn (Donnie) Hall of Andalusia and Shirley (Ben) Walden of Columbus, Ga.; brother, Lomax Hendrix of Red Level; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

HAROLD LLOYD PIERCE

Harold Lloyd Pierce, 85, of Dothan, passed away on Wed., Nov. 13, 2013, at his home, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Sat. Nov. 16, at Westgate Church of Christ in Dothan with Ministers Bill Watkins and Martel Pace officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 5-7 p.m. at Byrd Funeral Home.

The family will also receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Church of Christ in Andalusia, followed by a graveside service in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing.

He was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Walnut Hill, Fla. He was the seventh of 11 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Pierce. His formative years were spent in River Falls, where he graduated from Red Level High School.

After graduation, he spent two years in active military duty and served 26 years in the Alabama National Guard. He retired as a sergeant major. He served as deacon and elder at Park Avenue Church of Christ and on the board of directors for Agape of Central Alabama. He enjoyed ministering to others through song by leading worship at Westgate Church of Christ and at Extendicare of Dothan. He was a servant of Christ who instilled the steadfast faith of the Lord in his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Pierce; four sisters; two brothers; and one grandchild, Gabriel Pierce of Dothan.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jeanette Huggins Pierce of Dothan; children, Terry (Dr. Beth Weaver) Pierce, Wayne (Lisa) Pierce, Jill (Jack) Burkhalter, all of Dothan, and Jayne (Tim) Johnson of Nashville; grandchildren, Shawn and Adam Pierce, Gantt (Niki) Pierce, Chase, Leah and Blake Burkhalter, all of Dothan, Kaki (Nick) Morrow of Huntsville, and Garrett, Graham (Lindsey) and Griffin Johnson of Nashville; siblings, Pluma Moore, Ernestine Gunter, Bertrum Pierce, all of River Falls, and Lytress Allen of Monticello, Miss.; and a special friend, Dorothy Blackmon.

A special thanks is extended to Dr. Doug Jackson, Tammy and Gentiva Hospice.

WILLIAM LARRY CRUSS

A celebration of life memorial service for William Larry Cruss will be held on Sun., Nov. 17, at 2 p.m., at Conecuh River Baptist Church.

Cruss was born on May 6, 1965. He passed away in Neptune, N.J., at the age of 48, on Nov. 4 2012, after an extended illness.

Cruss is the son of the late Robert and Barbara Cruss of Pleasant Home.

All friends and family are invited to the memorial service.

 

LUTHER MALCOM CREW SR.

Luther Malcolm Crew Sr., 74 of Andalusia, died Wed., Nov. 11, 2013, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held on Sat., Nov. 16, at 1 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery.

Crew is survived by sisters, Patricia (Billy) and Smith, Rita (Pat) Turner; brother, Donnie (Debbie) Crew; two daughters, Diane Patterson and Patricia (Lynn) Powell; son, Luther M. Crew Jr.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Wade Powell, Jason Patterson, Jessie Crew, Johnathon Williamson, Paul Patterson and Brent Turner.
