SHS girls rout LHS; PHS tops Red Level

Straughn held Luverne to only four points in the second half during a 45-14 rout Tuesday night at its annual girls Thanksgiving tournament.

SHS led 21-10 at halftime to outscore LHS 23-4 in the final 16 minutes of the game.

With this victory, Straughn advances to play Brantley, who beat Houston Academy 54-21 in today’s championship game at 2 p.m.

“Brantley’s a good basketball team,” SHS coach Scott Kinsaul said. “It’ll be a good game.”

SHS junior forward Jacie Williamson led all scorers with 20 points.

In other tournament action, Pleasant Home defeated Red Level 51-11.

The Lady Eagles outscored RLS 28-0 in the first period.

“It was one of those nights where when you throw it up, the ball went in,” PHS coach Jerry Davis said.

Pleasant Home faced Straughn’s JV team at 11 a.m. today for fifth place.
