Florala took two hard losses to Samson at home on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats’ boys and girls varsity teams fell 63-34 and 43-23, respectively.

FHS is now 1-6 in boys action, and 4-4 in girls action.

Wildcats basketball coach Troy Stewart, who coaches both teams, said the boys are still getting used to his coaching style.

“There’s still learning my system,” Stewart said. “We’re working mainly on fundamentals.

“I found that to be lacking when I came here,” he said. “That’s the main focus, other than defense and working on shooting.”

For the Lady Wildcats, the team has come out and worked hard at each practice, Stewart said.

“They hustle every practice and at every game,” he said.

Florala is back in action on Friday at Georgiana. Then, the Wildcats will have a break before playing in the Alabama-Florida Shootout at Pleasant Home Jan. 3-4, 2014.

Then, area play will start for FHS against Geneva County on Jan. 7.

Stewart said all of the work that the Wildcats is doing will go to help them in area play.

“We’re trying to prepare for January,” he said. ”Now is the time that you prepare for January.”
