Invitational turnout a success

Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said the school was “proud” of how well attendance turned out during the Bulldogs’ annual invitational tournament last week.

Each night, the stands were packed at the high school’s gymnasium, where fans got the chance to see some quality match ups on the hardwood.

Play wrapped up on Saturday for the 47th annual invitational tournament, where Luverne won the championship for the second straight year.

Robertson said he felt like the tournament was a good draw this year.

“We’re proud we had good attendance,” Robertson said.

This year’s tournament consisted of seven teams. Robertson said he’s trying to secure an eighth team for the 2014 tournament so that there can be four games each day, instead of three, like this year.

“Next year’s going to be even better,” he said.

Robertson said the tournament tries to bring in teams from a 65-mile radius of Andalusia.

“It’s all about local teams,” the coach said. “This is a good family atmosphere here.”

Robertson said he’d like to thank all of the coaches who came out to support the tournament this year.
