Andalusia boys net 1st victory since Dec. 26 at RLS

Andalusia’s Bulldogs picked up their first win in almost three weeks Tuesday night in a 62-53 victory over Monroe County in area play.

AHS trailed after the first period, but bounced back in the second to take a 30-27 lead at halftime.

“We played better than we’ve been playing,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said. “We made mistakes but they (the opponent) didn’t come back like they’ve been doing.”

The Bulldogs went on to take a 47-43 lead after the third period.

Four Andalusia players finished in double figures for the Bulldogs (6-12).

Phillip James led all scorers with 18 points, Jayden Ellison had 14, Montel Lee had 12 and DeVante Jackson had 11.

Monroe County’s Marrio Richardson and Keshawn Stallworth had 12 and 13 points, respectively.

Andalusia’s girls also got an area win over MCHS. The Lady Bulldogs won 41-31.

Laticia Crittenden led AHS with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals; Shandricka Thompkins — who is now back on the team after an absence — contributed with 5 rebounds; and Grace Burns grabbed 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

Andalusia visits Hillcrest-Evergreen in area action on Friday.
