MARTIN VANBUREN HUCKABAA

Martin VanBuren “Jr.” Huckabaa, 59, of the Carolina community, died Wed., Jan. 26, at his residence.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Fri., Jan. 28, at Shady Hill Freewill Baptist Church.

Huckabaa is survived by sons, William (Rosa) Huckabaa of Opp, Dennis Huckabaa of Carolina and Derek Huckabaa of Andalusia; daughters, Marsha (Robert) Douglas of Carolina, Brenda Tolbert and fiancé Leon Mims of Opp; brothers, Jerry (Betty) Huckabaa of Greenville, Jackie (Mary) Huckabaa of Carolina, Curtis Huckabaa of Carolina and J. L. Huckabaa of Carolina; sisters, Evelyn (Edward) Davidson of Andalusia, Charlene (Wayne) Brandley of Wing; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Huckabaa was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the United States Army.

Pallbearers were Jason Smith, Tony Wayne Bradly, Kenny Hendrix, Clayton Hendrix, Don Florer and Jack McGowin.

SYBLE LOUISE  TOMPKINS

Syble Louise Tompkins, born Sun., Feb. 13, 1921, in Andalusia, passed away Sat., Feb. 15, 2014, at Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Wed., Feb. 19 at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Miller and the Rev. Bill Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in the Luverne Cemetery.

Tompkins was the daughter of Lonnie and Ida Vickery of Red Level. She married Willie Guy Tompkins on Sept. 30, 1939. The couple moved to Columbus, Ga., lived there for about six years, and returned to Covington County. She worked at the Andala/Alatex until she retired after 33 years of service.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Tompkins of Andalusia; daughters, Sandra Tompkins (R.D. Jr.) Owens of Andalusia and Vickie Tompkins Velten of Cypress, Texas; grandsons, Benjamin (Justine) Velten of Vermillion, S.D. and Luke Velten of College Station, Texas; brothers, Lonnie “Elwood” (Betty) Vickery of Cold Springs, Texas and Glen Vickery of Tomball, Texas; sister, Betty Vickery Head of Athens, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Velten; brothers, Cary Vickery, Everette Vickery, Curtis Vickery, Plennie “Jack” Vickery and Terry Vickery; sisters, Hazel Vickery, Elsie Vickery Tompkins and Joan Vickery Venuti.

She will always be remembered for her love of God, church, family and friends. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Southside Baptist Church in Andalusia.

Fay T. Mooney, 90, of Andalusia, died Sun., Feb. 16, 2014, at her residence.

Julia Lee Love Wilson, 84, of Andalusia, died Sat., Feb. 15, 2014, in the Opp Nursing Home.

Private family graveside services were held at Oakey Ridge Cemetery. Foreman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Maria and John Dutton of Andalusia; son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Diane Pressley of Andalusia; grandchildren, Julie Joiner of Idaho, Ginger Joiner and Billy Brown, Holly Joiner Smith and her fiancé, Michael Pittman, Zackary Todd Wilson, Brandi and Robbie Boles, Chris Pressley and Lindsey Pressley Morris, all of Andalusia; great-grandchildren, Brianne Love Joiner, Olivia Jordan Smith, Johnny Boles Jr., Brooklynn L. Boles, Ciera Pressley, Cheyenne Pressley and Sydney Pressley; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra Love and Lytle Hyde of Birmingham; and a brother and sister-in-law, W. R. and Jo Love of Birmingham.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Wilson to whom she was married for more than 50 years.
