There are still plenty of tickets to the Red Cross Taste of Covington County event set for Monday night.

Director Don Johnson said Wednesday they haven’t sold many tickets to the organization’s only fundraising event of the year, which offers a taste of local food vendors’ wares.

Johnson said the 21 vendors will serve up everything from Italian favorites such as pizza, lasagna and calzones, to Chinese fried rice, lo mein, sweet and sour chicken. There will also be favorites such as red beans and rice, chili, pork sandwiches, seafood gumbo and dessert.

Vendors include 2 Guys Pies, Beef O’Brady’s, Blue Lake Camp, China Wok, Church’s Chicken, David’s Catfish, Dean’s Cakehouse, Florala Health and Rehab, Huddle House, Larry’s BBQ, LBW Culinary Arts, Ofelia’s, Pizza Hut, Rancho Grande, Simone’s Café & Confectionary, St. Mary’s Church, Tropical Smoothie, Ty’s Place, Walmart Deli, Winn-Dixie Deli and Yo Craving.

“We hope to raise $20,000,” Johnson said. “This is our eighth year and it’s something people look forward to.”

Johnson said it’s the chapter’s only fundraiser, which means it’s important for locals to support it.

“We are set for a banner year for local disaster aid in Covington County,” he said. “I’m averaging two calls a week for home fires and trees on roofs.”

The event will be held at the Kiwanis Community Center Monday night from 6-8. Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at David’s Catfish, Em’s/Granny’s Attic in Opp, Dean’s Cakehouse, Larry’s BBQ, LBW Culinary Arts department, Ofelia’s, Simone’s, Ty’s Place, Winn-Dixie and Yo Craving.
