Mine! Mine! Mine!

That’s what Andalusia high and middle school volleyball players were shouting as they took possession of the ball on the first day of the Middle Tennessee State University Volleyball Camp.

Every year during the first week of June, the camp is held at AHS. Two instructors usually lead the camp and they teach players fundamentals, techniques and focus on what needs that particular school is looking to improve on.

“They always do fundamentals on the first day of camp,” AHS volleyball coach Angie Grimes said Tuesday. “We use this as a clinic and they cater to what we need, whether it be on offense or defense.”

Players were working on proper stance and passing drills early in the camp on Tuesday afternoon.

Grimes said it’s a good thing to watch these girls realize what needs fixing.

After a night session yesterday, the camp resumes today with three separate sessions; and two sessions tomorrow.

As each session progresses, the instruction tends to get harder and harder, Grimes said.

Other volleyball camps taking place this summer include Straughn working with Troy on July 17-18; and Red Level hosting a camp June 9-11 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each day.

Andalusia will be playing in a play date on July 19 at Enterprise for an officials clinic, and at T.R. Miller on July 31. Straughn is also playing at the play date at TRM.

The first practice for the 2014 volleyball season is Aug. 4.
