The Andalusia Board of Education on Monday contracted with Rite Way to clean both the high school and elementary school.

Last month, the board non-renewed custodial contracts at AES.

Superintendent Ted Watson said with this action, the system will have day porters at the schools, but the actual cleaning will take place at night.

“We think we’ll get a good job at reasonable price,” he said.

The company, which is headquartered in Birmingham, has area managers in Montgomery and Dothan. Company representatives at Monday’s meeting said they will hire local residents to clean the buildings.

The contract includes a deep summer cleaning that includes stripping the floors and washing all of the windows, and cleaning five nights each week beginning in the fall.

“We’ve contracted the cleaning this way at the high school for five years, at least,” Watson said. “Now we’ve moved that service over to AES.”

The move is expected to save the system between $10,000 and $20,000.

Rite Way was one of three bidders for the project. Southern Management submitted the lowest bid, but later withdrew it.
