Opp Police have arrested two juveniles for stealing iPads from Opp Middle School

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald on Wednesday said the incident occurred on June 9, around 9 p.m.

“On June 10, Opp Police Department A shift officers responded to the Opp Housing Authority on Barnes Street concerning a suspicious item located in the yard of a residence,” he said. “Investigation by A shift revealed that the item was an iPad that belonged to the Opp City School System.”

McDonald said it was then discovered that an overnight burglary had occurred at OMS and that a large number of iPads had been taken from classrooms.

McDonald said as of Wednesday morning, investigators and D shift officers were able to recover 20 iPads valued at $10,500.

The juveniles, both male and 17 years old, have been charged with burglary III and theft of property II.

McDonald said both were transported and remain in the Dothan Juvenile Diversion Center.

Investigators are currently working to find additional property that was removed from OMS.

McDonald asks that anyone who may have information concerning the stolen property to contact the OPD at 493-4511.
