Sports announcements: 12U district starts tomorrow

The 12U Cal Ripken District Baseball Tournament starts tomorrow at the RT Johnson Park on Williamson Street in East Brewton.

Andalusia, Opp and Covington County are the local teams playing in the tournament. They are joined be Brewton, East Brewton and Evergreen’s All-Stars.

Tournament play starts tomorrow night at 6 with Andalusia against East Brewton, and Covington County and Evergreen.

Opp and Brewton have first-round byes and will play at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Loser’s bracket play starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The semifinals in the winner’s bracket are at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The championship is slated for 6 p.m. on Monday.

Register for adult tennis

Paul Smith will be instructing an adult tennis class for beginners on Tuesday nights starting June 24.

The classes will last from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the LBWCC tennis courts.

To register for the class, stop by Johnson Park from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. during normal business days.

Registration cost is $35.

Clarification

In the Wed., June 11 edition of The Star-News, a local girl’s name who is competing in the 2014 Alabama High School Rodeo state finals this week was left out of the article under “Bucking Rodeo Time.”

Casey Cox, who lives in Red Level, will be competing from Crossroads Christian in Evergreen. Cox is a freshman.
