Andalusia’s newest Dollar General location is at 118 Shelby St.

Dollar General has opened a new location in Andalusia, with a larger, “more convenient” layout, according to store officials.

Polly Ainsworth, general manager of the new store, said the location has been opened since late June, but a grand opening event will be held Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.

“We have been busy ever since we opened,” Ainsworth said of the new location. “We’ve been running two registers and are probably going to have to get a third.”

Ainsworth said the former Dollar General location on E. Three Notch Street has already been closed down, but the new site offers twice the room for shoppers and merchandise.

“We’re at about twice what the other store was in size,” she said. “We’re right at 9,500 square feet.”

And Ainsworth said that is plenty of room for Saturday’s event, which will include a $10 Dollar General gift card for the day’s first 50 shoppers and Dollar General tote bags for the first 200 shoppers, among other giveaways.

The new location is now Andalusia’s largest Dollar General, as it joins stores located on River Falls Street and Church Street in Andalusia. The new location is located just north of the Kangaroo station, across the bypass from Winn-Dixie.

Dan Nieser, senior vice president of real estate and store development for Dollar General, said the new store at 118 Shelby St. now offers shoppers a more pleasant experience than they could received at the store’s former location just down the road on E. Three Notch Street.

“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Nieser said. “We hope our Andalusia customers will continue to enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”

Nieser said one of the purposes for the new building is to provide a location with a fresh layout, designed to make shopping easier and simpler for customers. He added that some of the store’s new features include seasonal products featured in the center of the store, easily recognizable departments with visible signage and coolers that are more conveniently located at the front of the store.
