Polls will be open today across Covington County, for the primary runoff election.

Today’s ballot will include a runoff for Covington County revenue commissioner between Meredith Peters and George “Chuck” Patterson. The pair defeated three other Republican candidates in June’s primary, and were separated from one another by only 23 votes. There were no challengers running on the Democrat ticket.

Also appearing on Tuesday’s ballot will be an amendment created to enhance the state’s cotton check-off program. If passed, the amendment would allow farmers to participate in the check-off system, which includes a self-imposed fees farmers pay when selling cotton to a gin.

Statewide, Republican ballots will feature the race between state Rep. John Merrill and Montgomery County Probate Judge Reese McKinny for Secretary of State; the State Auditor’s race between Jim Zeigler and Dale Peterson; and the race for Public Service Commission, Place 2 between Chris “Chip” Beeker and Terry Dunn.

Polls in all 26 Covington County precincts will be open today from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
