AES math meeting is tonigh

Parents of students participating in the Andalusia Elementary School Summer Enrichment program have the opportunity to participate in a program designed to help them help their students with math.

The meeting is set from 5:30 to 7 tonight, Thurs., July 17.

Troy University AMSTI Math Specialists will describe how math instruction has changed in the past decade. Due to the technological advancements, math instruction now focuses on problem solving versus rote mathematical procedures.

Alabama’s current math standards are one of the most comprehensive sets of standards in the nation, ensuring students are prepared for a successful future in the ever-expanding global environment. Specialists will demonstrate math strategies in all grade levels that are required in the 2010 Course of Study. Parents will be also be given “Math Road Maps” and web based resources that will enable them to help their child be more successful in mathematics.
