Straughn senior cards a 66 Wednesday

Straughn rising senior Brooks Rabren was back in action Wednesday for his second round of the Alabama Golf Association’s 69th annual Boys’ State Junior Championship at Gadsden Country Club in Gadsden.

Rabren, who finished runner up at the 2014 Future Masters in Dothan earlier this summer, shot a 5-under par 66 to move to sixth place and five shots back from the lead.

After making birdie on Nos. 1 and 3, Rabren finished out the front nine by making pars to make the turn at 1-under. His eagle on No. 12 put him at 1-over for the round.

On Nos. 16 and 17, Rabren made birdie, which put him at 1-under for the championship, which concludes today.

For the round, Rabren made four birdies, one eagle and one bogey.

During first-round action on Tuesday, Rabren shot a four-over 75, which his mom, Kim, said on Facebook wasn’t as good as her son would’ve wanted. She added that he would bring his A-game yesterday.

The Straughn High School standout will start his final round today, more than likely in the afternoon time slot.
