‘Aladdin’ to journey here

The Covington Arts Council will host Missoula Children’s Theater for a production of “Aladdin” next week.

For Aladdin it’s not easy to find a magic lamp but it’s even harder to get a date! The Missoula production is a swirling sandstorm of famous Arabian Tales from Ali Baba to Scheherazade and even Sinbad the Sailor, as Aladdin journeys to find a magic lamp in a Cave of (not-so-great) Wonders.

Along his way Aladdin seeks answers and advice from wise Genies, a powerful Sultan and even his own Mother to find a way to meet the Princess. However, even with the lamp in hand, Aladdin will have to learn that it takes more than a wish to make a good impression.

CAC executive director Paula Harr said auditions are open to students in first through 12th grades, an there are 60 to 65 spots available.

“The only thing students have to do is follow directions, speak loudly and clearly and smile,” Harr said. “There is no need to have anything prepared for the audition.”

Auditions are from 3:15 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in the Dixon Center at LBW Community College. Rehearsals will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and there will be a school performance Friday morning, along with a public performance on Saturday.

The public performance is set for 2 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 23, in the LBW Dixon Center. Admission is $10.
