Pleasant Home is looking for a shot at the Elite 8 State Tournament this season, Lady Eagles volleyball coach Jerry Davis said.

With an experienced group of girls coming back to the court, the coach said there’s a good chance.

“We’ve got some seniors back to play,” Davis said. “I’ve got a real strong junior class. We’ve only got one 10th grader on the varsity. That usually transmits to older girls and we’ve experienced regional the past three years. We’d like to get that shot. We’ve got a lot of potential.”

Leading PHS this year are seniors Sera Pelham, Jade Self, Katon King and Shelby Nixon. There are eight juniors on the squad.

“The program’s still young, but all of the kids have been playing through out the program,” Davis said.

Pleasant Home is playing in Class 1A, Area 3 action with J.U. Blacksher and Red Level. The Lady Eagles start the season on Thursday in area play against RLS.

Davis said he feels comfortable with the three girls he has up front, namely Self, River Baldwin and Johnnie Forehand. Cassidy Godwin will also get time up front as well.

Davis said his setters will be Bulger and King. Abby Walker will play some there, too.

“This is a fun time of the year,” he said. “It’s good to be with these girls. There aren’t a whole lot of dull moments out here.”
