A little bit of art and a whole lot of religion will be featured in gallery at the Lower Alabama Arts Coalition next week. Organizer Shelia Rhea said Wednesday the newest exhibit to be featured will be “Saints and Symbols,” which will feature artwork from Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church. “We will have them here on display,” Rhea said. “It will start next Tuesday and will run through the month of September.” Rhea said the idea came when a board member had lunch with Patricia “Sister” Barnes. A reception will held on Sept.. 16, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Rhea said the LAAC is also holding painting classes with Liz Reid Thursdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and that she announces via the LAAC’s Facebook page what the topic is for the event. Rhea said once the Saint Mary’s exhibit comes down, local artist Mary Ann Norton will be featured during the month of October. A reception time has not yet been set. In November, the 2014 LAAC juried art show will take place. “We are issuing a call to all artists,” she said. The best in show will be awarded $500, and $100 will be awarded for the first place in each category. Categories include acrylic, oil, watercolor, 3D, photography and miscellaneous. Entries will begin Oct. 1 and the deadline is Oct. 31. For more information, call 334-222-3205 or email loweralabama@centurytel.net.
