Opp sophomore quarterback Orlando Lacey was selected as a finalist for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors.

Lacey was beaten by Mortimer Jordan QB Duncan Hodges, who delivered a big performance for the Blue Devils last week. He compiled 21 of his 24 passes for 427 yards and six touchdowns in the 61-21 victory over Alexandria, and added 68 yards on 10 carries on the ground.

Lacey rushed for 218 yards on 13 carries and had three touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 51-42 win over T.R. Miller. He also picked up a fumble on a kickoff return and returned it 40 yards for the game’s final touchdown.

Cleveland’s Peyton Gilliland was the other offensive finalist for the POW honors.

Florala’s Chandler Holmes, who recorded 16 tackles in the Wildcats’ 35-21 loss to Brantley, was also nominated.
