Florala faces undefeated McKenzie at Matthews

Florala is looking at its senior night region contest against seventh-ranked McKenzie as one opportunity to be able to host the first round of the Class 1A state playoffs.

The Wildcats are sitting at 1-2 in region play with MHS, Pleasant Home and Kinston left on the schedule to play in Region 2 action.

FHS head football coach Brad Rhodes said tonight’s game has had a lot of build up to it.

“This game will be a must win for us,” Rhodes said. “It definitely takes you a big step toward the playoffs.”

McKenzie’s Terrance Clemons runs the Tigers’ spread offense.

Rhodes said Clemons can throw it vertical real well, and that the Wildcats’ defense is going to have to do a good job reading the assignments.

“He’s definitely a duel threat guy,” Rhodes said about Clemons. “McKenzie’s a really good football team. They have a lot of speed. It’s what they’re built around. (MHS) Coach (Josh) McLendon has done a great job since he’s gotten there with that team.”

Florala will still be without Levy Thames (knee) this week.

Kick off will be at 7 p.m., but pre-game senior night festivities start at 6:15.
