Locals will have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics, thanks to an upcoming Covington County Summit, officials said Monday.

The event, which is free and sponsored by Comfort Care Hospice, is slated for Oct. 21, and will be held at the Oakwood Lodge.

Vickie Wacaster of Comfort Care Hospice said this is the first year for the event to be held at Oakwood Lodge, and participants will hear a wide-variety of information, ranging from elder abuse to activities at the Adult Activity Center, to long-term care and more.

Rep. Mike Jones will also give a legislative update.

“We are really excited,” Wacaster said. “This is not about hospice. It’s about community service. We are a community resource.”

Wacaster said that everything the business does is open to the community.

“From the butterfly release to the Janet Pascal concert, it’s all about support and encouragement and being a part of our community,” she said. “I know it makes a difference. I’ve been on the receiving end of hospice. It’s a ministry more than a business.”

Wacaster said the event will be held from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by Mon., Oct. 20.
