Andalusia High School principal Daniel Shakespeare confirmed today that five football players will be suspended from Friday’s game against Montgomery Catholic.

Shakespeare said no names are being released, as all of those involved are minors.

The suspensions relate to goods being taken in Headland last week, Superintendent Ted Watson said. There has been no vandalism reported.

Late this afternoon, AHS head football coach Brian Seymore said an additional 14 players will sit out at the entirety of the first half of Friday’s game.

“We are very disappointed and embarrassed at what has taken place,” Watson said. “We have spoken with officials there, and plan to make full restitution there for products taken.”

Watson said Dr. Shakespeare has handled the investigation and the suspensions relate to athletics. Because athletics are an extension of the school day, there might be other punitive measures taken, he said.
