The “Surviving Evil” episode filmed in Andalusia in July will air next week.

The segment centers around Andalusia resident Judy Murrell, who was held captive by her then-boyfriend, sexually assaulted and shot three times at close range in April 2011.

The actors and film crew worked to recreate the scenes from Murrell’s story for the Investigation Discovery TV show and used the vehicle driven by Murrell’s attacker, Raul Del Torro, in the segment.

Del Torro shot Murrell three times at close range with her own .9 mm handgun, hitting her in her chest, side and right hip.

As a result of the gunshot wounds, Murrell eventually lost her spleen, gallbladder and a portion of her colon and small intestine, but she still has her life.

Del Torro was apprehended and pleaded guilty to attempted murder and sexual torture.

During the filming, APD Assistant Chief Paul Dean, who was a lieutenant in charge of criminal investigations at the time of the incident, said Del Torro’s actions could only be described as pure evil.

“This is a prime example of a case that fits perfectly with the concept of this television show,” he said. “I have seen cases similar to this one that resulted in homicide, but this is one of the worse acts against someone who survived as I’ve seen.”

Del Torro is serving two life sentences for the crimes.

The show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., on Oct. 29.
