DONNA CAMPBELL

Mr. Tip Campbell, 62, and Mrs. Donna Campbell, 56, of Rose Hill, “went to the barn and saddled their horses for the last time,” on Mon., Oct. 27, 2014.

They lost their lives late that evening in an ATV accident near the entrance to their home, Circle “C” Campbell Farms, on Hammett Road. The couple had gone to Tip’s son’s home to pick up a chair that needed repair. The couple had devised a wagon to pull behind the ATV to transport the chair. Tip loved devising ways to do things most efficiently.

Funeral services will be at held today at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. The couple will be transported to the First Baptist Church by a wagon drawn by their personal mules, Jasper and Sassafras. The couple’s caskets will be placed in the church at noon.

Close friend and State Rep. Mike Jones will open the funeral service by reading the cowboy prayer. Close friend and companion trail rider, the Rev. Durwood Cleland, and family friend the Rev. Barry Wilkinson, will officiate the service. Close friend and companion trail rider, Kymberly Keahey, will share a eulogy honoring the couple’s legacy. Lamar Morris will provide special cowboy spiritual music.

The couple will be laid to rest at the Rose Hill Church of Christ Cemetery, located on Collie dirt road, with military honors and the Rev. Steve Dohoney doing the committal prayer. The couple had ridden the dirt road countless times through the years, many times surrounded by fellow horse riding friends and many, many times just the two of them. At the cemetery, military honors will be performed for Tip, and the American flag will be presented by Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks.

The couple is survived by Tip’s children, son, Daniel (Lisa) Campbell and their children, Lane and Madison Campbell, who live next door to Tip and Donna, Michael Campbell of Trussville, and Chris Watley of Opp; Tip’s sister, Suzanna Campbell of Opp; and Tip’s first wife and the mother to his children, Sheila Campbell of Geneva.

Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his father, Kernace Daniel Campbell, and his mother, Helen Grider Campbell.

Donna in survived by her son, Ron Harness of Andalusia and his children, Katie Kinsman and Alexandrea Kinsman, Juliet Kinsman, Isabell Kinsman; daughter, Summer Harness and her children, Joshua Campbell, Lydia Poore and Noah Poore, all of Andalusia; her brothers, Roger (Janice) Crunk, Kenneth Crunk, Richard Crunk and Robert (Teresa) Crunk; her sisters, Marion Crunk and Patricia (Jerry) Jones, all of Tennessee; and her first husband and the father to her children, Ronal Harness.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her father, Lenard Harvey Crunk; her mother, Mildred Elizabeth Crunk; and two sisters, Emma and Jane.

The funeral cortege of hearses departing from the church en route to Rose Hill Church of Christ Cemetery will stop at the pasture adjacent to Tip’s son’s home on Hammett Road and place the couple’s caskets on the wagon drawn by their mules.

Any equestrian friends desiring to follow the horse drawn wagon can make arrangements to have their horses at that location, 29317 Hammett Road. The funeral directors will give time for those attending the service to depart from the First Baptist Church to have their horses at that site.

Serving as pallbearers for the couple will his grandsons, Joshua Campbell and Lane Campbell; close friends, Ladon Dewrell, Randy Keahey, R.J. Keahey, Dr. Roger Boyington, Dr. Shannon Cobb, Christopher Fowler, Scotty Carter, Scott Dutton, Charles Poore, Rex Jones and Pete Anderson; Sheriff Dennis Meeks, Deputy Posse, Joe Barton, the Rev. Steve Dohoney and his son, Bryan Dohoney, close friends Christopher Fowler, Scotty Carter, Scott Dutton, Charles Poore, Rex Jones, Joseph Jernigan and Pete Anderson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be officers with the Covington County Sheriff’s Posse. Tip took great pride in his service to the posse. Also, his close friends Bobby Whatley, Joe Rawls and Elliot Wheeler.

Some of Tip’s closest friends were planning a surprise birthday party for him in November. The surprise celebration was to also commemorate this year as being his 50th year of training horses. Tip and Donna cared for, trained and loved many, many types of farm animals through the years. A visit to their farm would yield seeing mules, horses, miniature cows, various breeds of dogs, barn cats, peacocks, guineas and various breeds of chickens. The horse that took Tip’s heart for nearly 30 years was his many time, prizewinning Palomino walking horse named “Buddy.” Through the years, the dog that stole the couple’s heart was a dog named “Jake.” Jake was a border collie and husky mix and a highly skilled herding dog trained to Tip’s commands. Jake was a fixture in the couple’s wagon for many years until the dog was stolen from their farm.

Tip retired from Shaw Industries and worked as a long haul truck driver for several years. He served in the U.S. Army. Donna worked alongside Tip every day, helping him with his horse training and breaking business. She recently had started to work as an administrative assistant for Dr. Cobb in his chiropractic business. Donna loved her job with Dr. Cobb. Tip and Donna founded the Covington County Mule Club and kept it active in Covington County for several years, organizing several successful state mule shows hosted at the Covington Arena.

A horse accident that nearly took Tip’s life several years ago became the pinnacle for Tip joining Donna in accepting Jesus as his Savior. With that change in Tip’s life, he became extremely dedicated to studying the Bible and attending church. He attended Rose Hill Church of Christ, which his forefathers had helped found. Most recently, Tip and Donna became active members in Open Heaven Church in Andalusia and close friends with the Rev. Steve and Mary Dohoney and their son, Bryan. Tip sang a solo at the church the Sunday prior to his death.

To honor the memory of Tip and Donna’s lives and their love for the western way of life, those attending are encouraged to wear boots.

 

 

HUBERT J. HUTTO

Mr. Hubert J. Hutto, 82, passed away Wed., Oct. 29, 2014, at Andalusia Regional.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Keahey Funeral Home.

 

SHERRY BYRD BRYSON

Mrs. Sherry Byrd Bryson, 67, formerly of Andalusia, died Tues., Oct. 28, 2014, at her residence in Madison.

A graveside service for Mrs. Bryson will be held on Fri., Oct. 31, at noon in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one-hour prior to services at Foreman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bryson is survived by her husband, Ralph Bryson; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Shelley Bryson of Harvest and Mike and Cecily Bryson of Durango, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Todd Morman of Mt. Laurel; grandchildren, Morgan Bryson, Rylee Bryson, Bryson Morman, Beckett Morman and Boden Bryson; sister, Ann Anderson of Foley; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Delores Byrd of Andalusia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
