It’s playoff time

This Friday will be the first round of the high school playoffs, and the first step for a chance to play at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn for the AHSAA football championship.

We have two teams in our county who have made it to the playoffs. The Straughn Tigers will face Childersburg, and the Opp Bobcats play Lamar County.

Straughn is aiming for its spot in the 4A state championship after losing in the semifinals last season, while the Bobcats are hoping to plough through 3A.

Our county teams are very good, and deserve everyone’s support.

You don’t have to be from Straughn or Opp to attend these games, and I encourage everyone who can to pick one of those two games and go watch it. If not to see some good high school football, do it to support the community and these kids who have striven so hard this season to get to this point.

You will not be disappointed if you choose to attend either of these ball games, but if you do go you might want to dress warm because we are finally going to have “football weather.” Temperatures are expected to be in the high-to-mid 40’s around kickoff.

Good luck this Friday to both the Tigers and the Bobcats. Do it big boys.
