Justin Corey Andrews, 32, has been charged with attempted murder in a fire which severely burned his wife.

Both Andrews and his wife, Stephanie Dawn Andrews, 39, were airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile after rescue workers found them in their front yard at their Batton Street home in Opp last Thursday.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald announced Tuesday that Justin Andrews had been charged, and is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He received moderate-to-severe burns.

Stephanie Andrews remains hospitalized in Mobile and is listed in critical condition.

The Opp Fire Department, Opp Police Department, and state fire marshal investigated the fire.

Steve Holmes, public information officer for the state fire marshal, said the couple had managed to pull a burning love seat to the front yard, and they were waiting for emergency responders in the front yard with the still smoldering furniture.

There was minimal damage to the residence.
