Straughn blows by Luverne

The Straughn Lady Tigers dominated the Luverne Lady Tigers, 49-22, Tuesday night in Straughn. The win earns Straughn a berth into the championship game against Brantley today.

 

Straughn came out firing on all cylinders, and playing tenacious defense to take a 13-3 lead after one period of play.

 

In the second, Straughn continued shooting well, making offensive rebounds when the shots didn’t fall. The defense continued to play stout as well, and Straughn held a 24-7 lead at half time.

 

With a commanding lead, Straughn didn’t shoot as much in the third period, and played a lot of younger players. After three periods of play Straughn was out front 35-12.

 

Straughn never took the foot off the gas, and continued their domination over Luverne until the final buzzer sounded a 49-22 victory for the Lady Tigers of Straughn.

 

“It was another solid effort,” Straughn head coach Scott Knsaul said. ” I’m glad they played us in man, because that was something that we needed to work on. We took good shots tonight and that is what we looking for.”

 

Jaci Williamson was the leading scorer for Straughn with 22 points. Janelle Nurse added 6 points for Straughn.

 

Straughn will play Brantley today at 2:30 for the championship game.
