Local residents will begin to see a flurry of activity Monday, when snow machines and cottages for this year’s Candyland Christmas will be put in place.

The Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Andalusia and local merchants, has organized the snow event in an effort to draw visitors – who might become shoppers – to town.

Every weekend in December, there is snow in the forecast at 6 p.m. on Fridays; noon on Saturdays; and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

As a special treat, there also will be snow this Thurs., Dec. 4, when the Christmas tree is lighted and the Christmas parade is held. The tree-lighting ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. and the parade rolls through town at 7 p.m.

There also will be snow on New Year’s Eve for the annual domino drop.

Candyland cottages – designed as playhouses for children – are sponsored by the City of Andalusia, Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, Covington Electric, Covington Millwork and Truss, Taylor Linen, Covington Realtor’s Association, Andalusia Regional Hospital, Gitty-Up-N-Go, and Southeast Alabama Gas District.

Local merchants will sell $5 raffle tickets for one amazing playhouse to make someone’s Christmas dream come true. The raffle tickets also are available at The Star-News office on Dunson Street.
