Fleeta holds off Florala

The Florala Lady Wildcats couldn’t hold off the Fleeta Lady Falcons, losing 29-27 in the first round of the Covington County junior varsity tournament.

 

 

 

It was all tied up 6-6 when the first period came to an end, and at the end of the first half the Lady Falcons held a slim 12-11 lead. The Lady Falcons’ Charlotte Taylor had an impressive game cleaning up the glass on both ends of the court.

 

 

 

The Lady Wildcats came out on fire in the third period scoring 8 points and holding the Lady Falcons to just 3 points. At the end of the third period the Lady Wildcats held a 19-15 lead.

 

 

 

However, the Lady Wildcats couldn’t hold on to the lead in the fourth period. Sharp shooting from Lady Falcons’ Kristian Robertson secured the lead, and finished off the Wildcats 29-27.

 

 

 

“We couldn’t close out the game,” Lady Wildcats’ head coach Troy Stewart said. “We should have won, but ball pressure got to us. This shows us what we need to work on at getting better at in the off season.”

 

 

 

The Lady Wildcats were led by Kaiden LeMaire with 11 points and Jakiyah Griffen added 10 points for the Lady Wildcats.

 

 

 

The Lady Falcons were led in scoring by Robertson with 14 points and Taylor tacked on 12 points for the Lady Falcons.

 

 

 

The Fleeta Lady Falcons will take on the the winner of Wednesday’s Straughn and Red Level game. That game will be played at 5:45 Thursday.
