Straughn Lady Tigers cruise past Red Level

The No. 1-ranked Straughn Lady Tigers shot lights out to defeat the Red Level Lady Tigers 55-22 Monday night in Red Level.

 

 

 

In the first period, Straughn raced out front behind big 3-pointers from Janelle Nurse, Jacie Williamson and Bailey Wilson. Straughn led 15-5 after the first period.

 

 

 

Straughn continued to shoot the ball exceptionally well in the second period, and held a 35-8 lead at halftime. Williamson was on fire from the floor, scoring 12 points. Lexie Cottle added 4 points for Straughn. Red Level’s Kayla Hinson had a pair of free throws.

 

 

 

In the third, Williamson stayed hot with another 8 points for Straughn. With three periods in the books, Straughn was out front 51-17.

 

 

 

Red Level continued to fight despite the scoreboard, and Deonna Harris displayed fine shooting on her 4 fourth period points. Despite the effort and intensity, the Red Level Lady Tigers fell to the Straughn Lady Tigers 55-22.

 

 

 

Red Level was led in scoring by Shelby Holley with 11 points, and Hinson had 7 points.

 

 

 

“We didn’t play well in any phase of the game tonight,” Red Level’s head coach Allen Catrett said. “We played against a really good team tonight. We will come back tomorrow and work at it some more.”

 

 

 

Straughn’s leading scorer was Williamson with 24 points. Nurse and Cottle both had 6 points.

 

 

 

“After three tough games in Mobile, I was interested in seeing how we would come out mentally tonight, and we did very well with that,” Straughn head coach Scott Kinsaul said. “We just have to keep on working at it, and getting better with every game.”
