The 5K, which begins at the intersection of 3rd Ave. and 3rd St. in Alabama, takes walkers and runners around beautiful Lake Jackson into Florida and back into Alabama, finishing at 23089 Lake Shore Blvd. The route is USATF-certified.

Advance registration, which is $25, is available at active.com. Last year’s 5K attracted more than 400 participants.

Mardi Gras 5K Run and Walk

St. Mary’s Mardi Gras 5K Run and Walk will be held Sat., Feb. 14.

The 5K run and walk will go to support the church’s rice and beans program, which offers free rice, beans and non-perishable food items, as well as a free hot breakfast to those in need on the third Saturday of each month.

Cost is $25 for the 5K, and $10 for the fun run.

The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the fun run starts at 10 a.m. The run starts at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 1307 East Three Notch St., in Andalusia. Awards will be given out and a red beans and rice lunch will be served for all participants at 10:30 a.m. Additional lunch tickets are available for $5.
