Key Club Division 17 – which includes Andalusia, Florala, and Greenville High School Key Clubs – will hold a 5K on Sat., Feb. 21, to raise money for children in need of dialysis.

The event, “Dashing 4 Dialysis,” will start (and end) at Andalusia High School. All of the money raised is going to the dialysis unit being renovated at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. This is the only hospital in Alabama that children can go to for dialysis.

Statewide, Key Club members have set themselves a goal of raising $40,000 for Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Locally, the district is responsible for $2,000 of that goal. Key Club Lt. Gov. Taran Carrasco said students have already placed collection jars in numerous locations to work toward that goal, and now will host a 5K.

Runners/walkers can pick up forms to run at Andalusia High School, as well as T-shirt sponsorship forms. The are also are available on the Star-News’ website and Facebook page.

Sponsorships are $25, and the individual/company name will go on the back of the run shirts.

Donations and forms can be mailed in to Andalusia Key Club at 701 3rd Street, Andalusia, AL, 36420.

Registration is $20 for runners/walkers who register and pay before Feb. 1, and they are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Registration after that date is $25.

Registration on race day will be from 8-8:45 and the race will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.

“We are so excited for the race, and we consider it an honor to be able to serve Children’s Hospital in this capacity,” Carrasco said.
