Covington County E-911 is currently in negotiations for a new 911 switch, officials said Tuesday.

E-911 Director Kristi Stamnes said they hope to have the new system installation started in the next few months.

Stamnes said the new system will not affect local fire departments.

“They will still be paged and worked the same way as they are now,” she said. “There will be an extra benefit that they are not getting now. We will be able to send the incident type and location to their phone as a page in addition to their page on their radios.”
