B-team Tigers take down Panthers

A strong second half effort pushed the Straughn Tigers’ B-team to a 63-53 win over the Georgiana Panthers Thursday night in Straughn.

 

The Tigers came blazing out the gate, and were out front 19-8 at the end of the first period. Allen George and Hank Peeples each knocked home 3-pointers, and finished the first period with 5 points. Daylan Grant added a 3-point basket. Ethan Wilson and Matthew Worley each ended the first with 2 points.

 

The Panthers battled back in second period, and even went ahead with 17 seconds left before halftime. With 8 seconds left in the first half, and down 26-25, Kevin Heiken drove the lane for 2 points to give the Tigers a 27-26 lead at halftime. Grant added 4 more points in the second period.

 

The Tigers came out on a mission in the third period, and pushed the lead up to 45-36 heading into the final period. George and Grant both got hot in the third with 6 points each. Heiken added another 4 points to his total.

 

In the fourth period, the Tigers kept up the solid shooting and limited the number of open looks for the Panthers. George led the way in the fourth period with 4 points. Peeples, Wilson, Heiken and Grant each had 2 points in the final period to give the Tigers a 63-53 victory.

 

George and Grant led the Tigers in scoring with 15 points each. Worley finished the night with 10 points. Heiken and Wilson each totaled 8 points on the night.

 

The Tigers will travel to tonight to take on the Elba Tigers for the final game of the regular season.
