Area Tournaments begin today

The 2014-2015 high school basketball regular season has officially come to an end, and the quest for a state title begins with the area tournaments.

Area tournaments for all schools in Covington County will begin this week. The Andalusia Bulldogs boys’ team is the only team that will host an area tournament.

The 4A Area 2 boys’ tournament will be held at Andalusia High School Gymnasium beginning on Feb. 5. The No. 2 seeded Straughn Tigers will face the No.3 seeded Headland Rams at 5:30 p.m., and top seeded Andalusia will take on fourth seeded Ashford Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. The championship game will be Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. The winner will then host a sub regional game, and the loser will have to travel for sub regional contest.

The 4A Area 2 girls’ tournament will be held at Ashford High School beginning on Feb. 4. Third seed Andalusia will take on the second seeded Straughn Lady Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Fourth seed Headland will take on No. 1 seed Ashford at 7 p.m. The championship game will take place Feb. 6, at 7 p.m.

The 3A Area 2 boys’ tournament will be held in Brewton, at T.R. Miller High School. Opp will face Hillcrest-Evergreen on Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. The winner will face T.R. Miller in the championship game on Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

T.R. Miller will also be the host site for the 3A Area 2 girls’ tournament on Feb. 5. The third seed Opp Lady Bobcats will face No. 2 seed Hillcrest-Evergreen at 5 p.m. The winner will face the top seeded T.R. Miller Lady Tigers for the championship game Feb. 7, at 5 p.m.

The 1A Area 2 boys’ tournament will be hosted by Brantley, and will begin Feb. 3. No. 2 seed Pleasant Home will take on No. 3 seed Kinston at 4:30 p.m. The No. 4 seed Florala Wildcats will take on No.1 seed Brantley at 7:30 p.m. The championship game will be Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

The 1A Area 2 girls’ tournament will also be held in Brantley beginning on Feb. 3. Third seed Florala will take on the second seeded Pleasant Home Lady Eagles at 3 p.m. No. 4 seed Kinston will face top seed Brantley at 6 p.m. The championship game will be Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.

The 1A Area 3 boys’ tournament is going to be hosted by Georgiana beginning Feb. 5. The No. 2 seed Red Level Tigers will face third seeded J.F. Shields at 5 p.m. The top seeded Georgiana Panthers will take on fourth seed McKenzie at 6:30 p.m. The championship game will be Feb. 7, at 5 p.m.

J.F. Shields will host the 1A Area 3 girls’ tournament beginning on Feb. 3. The second seeded Red Level Lady Tigers will face off with third seeded Georgiana at 5 p.m. No. 1 seed J.F. Shields will battle No. 4 seeded McKenzie at 6:30 p.m. The championship game will be held Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.
