Krystal Lee was named coordinator of the Covington Area Transit System (CATS) in a special called meeting of the Covington County Commission on Wednesday.

Lee, who currently is a clerk in the probate judge’s office, will replace the current coordinator, who is retiring this week.

In other business, the commission:

• Appointed William Blocker to the Industrial Development Board.

• Tabled plans to request an attorney general’s opinion on whether or not the county can use proceeds from the Alabama Trust Fund to help pay its portion of bond payments related to construction at the South Alabama Regional Airport.

The Alabama Trust Fund proceeds must be used for capital projects. Although the bond proceeds for the airport were used for capital improvement projects, it is not immediately clear whether bond payments can be considered capital improvements.

Current county attorney Tom Albritton has been tapped to head the Alabama Ethics Commission, and asked that the commission have its new attorney make that request.

• Authorized the county engineer to purchase an asphalt distribution truck from ALDOT surplus.
