OMS student shares BLUE message

Opp Middle School eighth grader Merrill Ann Culverhouse brought her Dress in Blue platform to the Andalusia Rotary Club on Tuesday.

Culverhouse, whose father and driver, Merrill Culverhouse (shown here), is a colon cancer survivor, is encouraging people to wear blue on Fri., March 6, to raise awareness of colon cancer.

She has made this her platform through her participation in Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen program, which is associated with the Miss America Organization.

Her message is B.L.U.E. – Be Screened, Live healthy Lifestyle, Understand the facts, and Encourage others.

Last year, she worked with Gov. Robert Bentley to get March proclaimed Colon Cancer Awareness month in Alabama.

She will participate in the state Outstanding Teen program March 6 through March 9 as Miss Covered Bridge Outstanding Teen.
